Are you vulnerable with your audience?

I was very shocked (and liberated) when I started to understand this – as stated by the great Carl Rogers:

“I have most invariably found that the very feeling which has seemed to me most private, most personal &, hence, most incomprehensible by others, has turned out to be an expression for which there is a resonance in many people. It has led me to believe that what is most personal & unique in each of us is probably the very element which would, if it were shared & expressed, speak most deeply to others.”

– Carl Rogers

It’s also a good quote for keynote speakers to remember when they are wondering whether to be vulnerable or not on stage (but it does require a high degree of self-awareness, and you need to test your idea with trusted friends first, before sharing on stage!)

Thank you Christine Liu Lilwall for sending this to me this morning!
